Spring Breakers drop lines when wind allows
Spring Break fishing has been busy with families and groups of anglers fishing the Coastal Bend. Dockworkers report good catches both inshore and offshore as the wind allows.
Limits of kingfish and shark were the big catches on the Adventurer out of Offshore Adventures. Bay guides led customers to limits of black drum and sheepshead using shrimp and mullet, reported Peggy Sexton.
Limits of big sheepshead, 5-6 pounders, are being caught at the Fina docks, according to Sharon Keehlisen out of Woody's Sports Center. Pier anglers are reeling in gafftop and sheepshead. Bay guides are catching limits of redfish and black drum. Those fishing on the Island Queen are catching whiting, sand trout and sheepshead.
Limits of king mackerel are being caught along with vermilion snapper, scamp, and a large spinner shark, John McNatt of Fisherman's Wharf said. Anglers fishing the north jetty are catching sheepshead and redfish. Bay guides have been bringing in black drum.
Bridget Jackson at Dolphin Dock reported big catches of blackfin tuna and amberjack. Vermilion snapper, lane snapper, kingfish, barracuda and shark also were caught.
Kingfish, spanish mackerel, spinner and atlantic sharpnose shark were caught by anglers out of Deep Sea Headquarters last week, Jerry Montalbo said. A 20-hour offshore trip to Falcon brought in blackfin tuna.
