Pettus pummeled
Lady Marlins' defense is key to victory

The Port Aransas High School Lady Marlins sometimes have run into trouble when playing road games at Pettus High School. But not on Friday, Jan. 18. The Lady Marlins crushed the Lady Eagles, 57-25.

"This was a good defensive performance in a gym that has not always been the best place for us to play," said Randy Henderson, coach of the Lady Marlins.

"We have struggled here the last three years, but not this time," Henderson said. "We made 25 steals, led by Lia Phillips' seven.

The Lady Marlins' three-point shooting wasn't as accurate as it could have been. But it worried Pettus enough to open up opportunities close to the basket for the Port Aransas girls.

"Every player on our roster made significant contributions to this win," Henderson said. "I really enjoy seeing that from this group. Our balance is tough for our opponents to defend."
