Santa may deliver better fishing weather

Saturday, Dec. 20, provided weather just good enough for a short offshore fishing window. It was not predicted, so some weren't ready for it, but a few offshore boats ventured out and did well.

Bay anglers who could stand the cold have brought in red and black drum, sheepshead, sand trout and flounder.

Scott Garrison at Deep Sea Headquarters said offshore trips are catching blackfin tuna, kingfish, vermilion snapper and Atlantic sharpnose shark. Long floater trips brought back yellowfin and blackfin amberjack and dorado.

Brenda Jackson at Dolphin Dock reported blackfin tuna, kingfish, vermilion snapper, Atlantic sharpnose shark and one bull tiger shark caught on a Saturday offshore trip.

Sharon Keehlisen at Woody's Sports Center said she had heard anglers were catching pompano at Packery Channel. Fishing guide Jim Adams braved the cold, rain and wind on Monday, Dec. 22, to scout the bays. He reported that the currents were "Ripping way to bad to catch to catch anything," but that he expected it to be much better by Christmas.

MaryAnn Heimann at Offshore Adventures said anglers had been catching black and red drum, sand trout and flounder from the shore of Redfish Bay over the weekend.
