Learning the ropes
      The Port Aransas High School criminal justice class got a tour of the police station from officer Sandra Franco on Wednesday, Dec. 10. The students were shown the communications center, booking areas, holding cells, and court rooms. Deadly sharks
      The Bull Sharks, a team of six Port Aransas youths, participated in a soccer tournament on Saturday, Dec. 13, in Corpus Christi. They placed first in the under-9 division and second in the under-8/undernine division. The team qualified to take part in the Western Finals in Las Vegas, Nev., as well as the Winter Nationals in Round Rock.

      I confess. I haven't been to church for months and months. It isn't that I've lost faith. Or maybe I have. Not in a higher power, but in my boys. I have no faith that my three sons will sit quietly and behave. And so I have stopped going.

Poetry contest seeks students in high school for competition
      The 2009 Emerging Writers Poetry Contest is seeking submissions from high school students in grades 9 through 12 who are under 18 years of age. The contest is in conjunction with the annual Texas Laughing Gull Writing contest sponsored by the Art Center for the Islands in Port Aransas.

Forensics expert, author to speak at benefit event
      Author and forensics expert David Ciambone will give a talk on "Murder 101" on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. The talk will be at the Dunes Condominium, 1000 Lantana Drive. The $3 admission will help support the Laughing Gull writing contest, sponsored by the Art Center for the Islands.
