High School Lady Marlins battled back to squeak past the Ingleside High School Lady Mustangs in an overtime thriller on Tuesday, Nov. 25.

PAHS prevailed, 38-36, partly due to clutch shooting at the end of the game by Lady Marlin Rachael Phillips.

The Lady Marlins found themselves in a hole in the home game's first quarter, trailing the Lady Mustangs at one point by a score of 3-14.

The island girls fought back in the second quarter, outscoring Ingleside 15-8. Heading into the fourth quarter, Port Aransas was down, 24-30. But with little time remaining in the game, the gap was closing, with the Lady Mustangs barely ahead, 33-31.

Phillips then swung into action.

"Rachael Phillips stepped to the free throw line after being fouled," said Stephanie Foerster, coach of the Lady Marlins. "This is the second time Phillips has been in a position to extend the game from the free throw line this year. After hitting both free throws and getting a defense stop on the other end of the floor, the game was sent into overtime."

After two free throws by Lady Marlin Emily Scott, the Lady Mar- lins put heavy defensive pressure on their opponents, allowing the Lady Mustangs to score only three points in overtime.

Leading Lady Marlin scorers: Hannah Jones, 13; Scott, 11; Phillips, 9; Meredith Berry, 3; and Katelin Dupnik, 2.

The Lady Marlins' season record now stands at 5-3.
