FISHING REPORT

Tuna and kingfish await those who venture offshore

With the winds shifting back and forth, cold fronts coming and going and the holiday interrupting, fishing was generally slow this week.

Few offshore boats went out. Those that did caught tuna and kingfish.

The bays are still yielding redfish, trout, lots of black drum, sheepshead and flounder.

Tom Creighton at Woody's Sports Center reported that bay guides were catching redfish, trout and black drum. Anglers on the channel caught sand trout, gafftop, sheepshead and black drum.

MaryAnn Heimann at Offshore Adventures said bay guides are catching sheepshead and redfish in the flats. Pier anglers have been catching speckled trout and gigging flounder at night.

Bill Fintel at Barnacle Bill's Pier House on Horace Caldwell Pier said anglers there have been catching sheepshead, but tourism was slow at the pier this week.

John McNatt at Fisherman's Wharf said that over the weekend offshore anglers brought in kingfish and a few wahoo. Bay guides are reporting sheepshead, redfish, trout and the occasional flounder around the north jetty.

Scott Garrison at Deep Sea Headquarters said offshore trips are catching blackfin tuna, spinner shark, kingfish and vermilion snapper. Long floater trips brought back yellowfina and blackfin tuna and dorado.
