Students pose as patients
      Halloween came early this year for five students of the Port Aransas High School theatre class. The students were invited to pose as patients at an emergency room on Sunday, Sept. 28, for a course that trained interns to become trauma doctors. They were painted as trauma victims at Christus Spohn Hospital Memorial, Corpus Christi.

      Texans can lay the foundation for their children's education with the Texas Tuition Promise Fund — a new prepaid college tuition program that lets families start paying for college tuition now, based on prices determined by today's tuition rates.

Sand boat
      Lance Lee sits in the prow of a 'boat' that he and his friend, Elijah Cordero, dug out of the sand on the beach recently in Port Aransas. The boys accompanied Lance's mother, Mary Vincent, to enjoy a sunny day on the beach just a few hours away from their home in San Antonio. Both boys said that when they were through sailing their 'boat,' they would search for seashells.

Getting 'tooned up
      Joe Lamb is employed as the building official for the City of Port Aransas, but his hobby is drawing cartoons. During his lunch breaks on Sept. 25 and 26, he gave free cartooning lessons to several classes of H.G. Olsen Elementary School students. Above, Lamb demonstrates how to shape a cartoon character's head.

      Get your Sunday Best out again, and practice that winning smile some more. School picture retakes at Brundrett Middle School have been rescheduled. The retakes will now be taken on Wednesday, Oct. 22.

G-T to celebrate George Washington
      We are beginning a new gifted and talented pullout program this year and we are very excited at H.G. Olsen Elementary. I pull out the children every Thursday for about a two-hour time period during which time we will explore projects and tap into their gifts and see what we can discover.

Byrd to walk to help benefit fibrosis group
      Mitchell (Ray) Byrd, Jr., a 16-yearold Port Aransas High School student, will be walking in the Great Strides walk at the Cole Park Amphitheater in Corpus Christi. The walk is a benefit and awareness-raising event for the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Young stars
      Taylor Griffin, left, and Aaron Kenigsberg, both of Port Aransas, will star in the upcoming production of Cinderella. Griffin has been cast in the lead as Cinderella, and Kenigsberg will play the Grand Duke. They will perform in December at area schools and at the Wolfe Recital Hall at Del Mar Community College in Corpus Christi.
