Kiwanis tournament rescheduled
      A bruiser named Hurricane Ike muscled the first Port Aransas Kiwanis Club Scholarship Golf Tournament at the just-opened Newport Dunes Golf Club out of its slot last weekend. It was to have been played Saturday, Sept. 13, but the threat of Hurricane Ike making a direct or near hit on Port Aransas caused postponement.

FISHING REPORT
Boats back in the harbor, all's well in Port Aransas
      There is not much fishing to report this week, because there was not a lot of fishing going on in Port Aransas. The tourists were gone and most residents were either preparing to evacuate from Hurricane Ike, surfing, gone or cleaning up from flood waters.

Kingfisher catches kingfish
      Sam Gutierrez and friends from Schertz fished aboard the Kingfisher with Capt. Tony Buzbee out of Deep Sea Headquarters on Sunday, Aug. 31. They returned with limits of kingfish, vermilion snapper and dorado.
