First Friday to feature 'Paintslingers'

The September First Friday reception at the Art Center for the Islands will feature the "Paintslingers". The public is invited to view the exhibit, socialize and enjoy live music and refreshments on Friday, Sept. 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the art center, 323 N. Alister.

Exhibiting "Paintslingers" are Guy Morrow, Blake Taveapont and Ed Bokamper.

Port Aransas artist Morrow usually paints people in various natural outdoor settings with an emphasis on life-like realism. He often paints with egg tempera or oil and is currently doing miniatures in acrylic. Morrow's work has been collected internationally. He operates a studio and teaches art classes.

Taveapont lives, paints and has taught painting in Rockport. After an accident in 1974, he was left with limited use of one hand, and has since been working on regaining his painting abilities. Taveapont works in oil, portraying waterfront scenery including boats and coastal life.

Bokamper of Corpus Christi works in oil and paints Texas landscapes with an historical bent, inspired by the missions in San Antonio and Goliad. His work was recently exhibited in Corpus Christi and San Antonio.

Woody's Sports Center and Urban Engineering are sponsoring the art center during September
