Franco wins scholarship
Elaine Michelle Franco, a 2008 Port Aransas High School graduate, was awarded a scholarship by the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation.
Franco received a Spalding Sports Worldwide award in the amount of $1,000, to be paid in $500 increments each semester of the first year. The scholarship was awarded to 40 students who have participated in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Academic State Meet and who have compiled an outstanding record of academic and extracurricular achievement.
Franco competed in literary criticism at the 2007 and 2008 UIL Academic State Meets. She also competed in UIL headline writing, ready writing, editorial writing, track and field, cross country, basketball and softball while in high school.
Franco plans to attend Texas A & M University-College Station and major in kinesiology.
She is the daughter of Jeri and Manuel Franco of Port Aransas.
