Bert G. (Glenn) Bearden, 65, of Port Aransas, died Saturday, July 19, 2008.
Bearden was born April 5, 1943, in San Antonio. In the 1960s and 70s he held two world records in stock car racing. He served in Vietnam with the U.S. Marine Corps, then worked in property management in San Antonio and later in Rockport and Port Aransas. He was serving as chaplain with VFW Post 8967 in Port Aransas at the time of his death.
Bearden is survived by his wife, Nita Sue Byrd of Port Aransas; five sons, Brandon Bearden of Rockport, Keith Bearden of Dallas, Jonathon Bearden of San Antonio, Christopher Bearden of Port Aransas and Kenneth John Byrd of San Antonio; two daughters, Tina Mireles of San Antonio and Angela Byrd of Port Aransas; his mother, Virginia Bearden of San Antonio; four brothers, Troy, Timothy and Thomas Bearden, all of San Antonio and Phillip Bearden of Cleveland, Ohio and many grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held in Port Aransas and San Antonio at a later date.
