City council poised to OK transportation plan

Those cables you may have seen stretched across some Port Aransas streets July 7-10 were part of the city's transportation planning. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) put cables across State Hwy. 361 North on Harbor Island, Cotter Avenue, Alister Street, Mustang Boulevard and State Hwy. 361 at three locations south of Avenue G to measure traffic. A benefit barbecue and auction will be held for Glenn Bearden this Saturday, July 19, at 4 p.m. The event will be held at the Moore-McDonald Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8967, at 311 N. The crowd wasn't as big as last year, but the enthusiasm at this year's Outboard Fishing Tournament ran even higher. With 182 anglers entered, the 2008 Outboard Tournament - the 34th in the series - had slightly fewer than last year's, but tournament chairman and Port Aransas Fire Auxiliary treasurer Kim Hill said that's to be expected.
