Fire department benefits from Outboard
      The crowd wasn't as big as last year, but the enthusiasm at this year's Outboard Fishing Tournament ran even higher. With 182 anglers entered, the 2008 Outboard Tournament - the 34th in the series - had slightly fewer than last year's, but tournament chairman and Port Aransas Fire Auxiliary treasurer Kim Hill said that's to be expected.

      This group went fishing aboard the Scat Cat out of Fisherman's Wharf on Tuesday, June 24, with Capt. Bob Wigal. They caught limits of red snapper and kingfish.

      Capt. Tony Buzbee took this group out fishing aboard the Kingfisher on a 12-hour trip out of Deep Sea Headquarters on Sunday, July 13. They caught these snapper, kingfish, ling and shark.

      The Jorn Well Service company of Monahans fished on a 48-hour tip aboard the Dolphin, out of Dolphin Dock, on Tuesday, July 8. They brought in this nice mix of tuna, snapper, shark, kingfish and a marlin.

      These four, from left, J.R. Wesson of Sherman, Tyler Reese of and Jessica and A.J. Benton, all of Haskell, fished off the Scat Cat on Tuesday, June 17. Capt. Donnie Lueck, out of Fisherman's Wharf, took them out to catch these grouper, snapper, shark and ling.

Super catch
      On Monday, July 14, Ryan Brunson, left, Jacob Belanger and Dave Brunson of Austin, fished with Port Aransas guide Ed Woodhouse. They fished in South Bay and caught limits of redfish and trout. They hung their catch at Fisherman's Wharf.

Tale of two brothers
      The McGinnis brothers of Spring Branch were fishing in the bay over the Fourth of July weekend, when they caught their first trout and grouper. Dylan, 5, is above with his trout and Wyatt, 7, below with his grouper.

FISHING REPORT
Snapper, snapper and more snapper
      The snapper are on the bite this week. There is a general consensus around the docks that kingfish are a little slower, as well as ling, but red snapper are picking up. In the bays, fishing has been good. Anglers are still catching redfish and speckled trout. There were a few who caught flounder at the docks and jetties.

      The Baker family of Floresville fished on the Wharf Cat out of Fisherman's Wharf with Capt. Tim Snyder on Monday, July 14, and brought in these kingfish.

Luck of the Island
      These four went fishing recently with Capt. Frank Duxstad out of Woody's Sports Center. They caught these black drum in the Shamrock Island area using fresh shrimp. They are, from left, Duxstadt, Sharon and Matt Moczygemba of Houston and Shelly Moczygemba and Jerome Mitchell of Austin.

First tarpon
      Earl Ringleb and Charlie Fisher, both of Port Aransas, went fishing on Ringleb's boat the Best Bett on Tuesday, July 8, intending to catch some redfish. Ringleb caught and released this tarpon, his first, and possibly the first of the season, according to Fisher. They were fishing at the end of the north jetty when the tarpon was caught.
