A team of four women - three from Poteet, and one from Port Aransas - took the overall prize in the 25th annual Powder Puff fishing tournament June 20-21.
Sharon, Laurie and Jamie Burchfield, all of Poteet, and Renee Hornbuckle, of Port Aransas, won the overall prize after entering the tournament's amateur division.
It was the first time in memory that an amateur team took the overall prize, said Glenn Martin, owner of Woody's Sports Center, which conducted the tournament.
The tourney attracted 142 contestants, Martin said.
"It was good," Martin said. "Of course, it's always a lot of work. But I believe all the contestants had a good time, and so it was a success. The weather was beautiful, and the fish cooperated."
