Summer classes offered at Art Center for the Islands

The Art Center for the Islands is hosting a variety of opportunities to learn or improve on a skill through the end of May and in June. All classes and workshops will be held at the Art Center for the Islands, 323 N. Alister St.

Pre-registration and prepayment are required for some classes, and supply lists are available at the front desk at the art center.

On Tuesdays, a Drop in and Draw class is taught by Pat Dittberner. It is held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost is $15 for non-members, $13.50 for members. The public is invited to learn to draw or improve skills.

On Thursdays Donna Garven will give instruction on using soft pastels or oil painting. Students may work in either medium during the class, held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost is $15 for non-members, $13.50 for members. Participants should call or stop by the art center for a supply list.

On Fridays, May 23 and 30, Kay Barnebey will teach a beginner/intermediate watercolor class. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $25 for one class or $80 for four. Check with the art center for scheduling in June.

A five-day workshop on Raku pottery taught by Ken Barnett is scheduled for June 9-13. Two classes are available for those dates, from 1:30-4:30 p.m., or 6-9 p.m. Cost is $195 for members, $225 for nonmembers. Half the cost must be prepaid by June 2. Firing is scheduled for June 21.
