PAEF gets 'A' for school grants

They deserve our support. Mary Judson is editor and co-publisher of the South Jetty. Reach her at southjetty@centurytel. com. They deserve our support. Mary Judson is editor and co-publisher of the South Jetty. Reach her at southjetty@centurytel. com. How great is the Port Aransas Education Foundation? How great is Port Aransas?

Both are fantastic!

Thanks to the support of Port Aransas, the PAEF distributed more than $48,000 in grants to educators in the Port Aransas Independent School District last week.

Woo-hoo!

The money is going for academic purposes that the district is unable to fund, thanks to the Robin Hood system of school finance in the State of Texas.

I'll go easy here and not go into what school districts in Texas spend on competitive sports. There is a good reason for funding athletics, but not at the expense of academics, but that's for another day.

Today, take a look at reporter Dan Parker's story about what is being funded by these PAEF grants.

That these programs, projects and equipment are way cool is an understatement.

PAEF has worked diligently and quietly - well, except for the Mardi Gras in October - to raise some serious bucks for some serious endeavors to better educate Port Aransas students.

Better-educated students mean a better workforce, a better tomorrow - for Port Aransas and anywhere these students may travel.

Kudos to the PAEF and kudos to the PAISD teachers who applied for some exciting materials to make learning an exciting experience for their students.

PAEF is spreading a good thing: Better education.

They deserve our support.
