EDUCATION NOTES
Lia Phillips is president of the Port Aransas High School Student Council. At the beginning of every year there are goals to be set. Whether playing on a team, being a member of a club, or just being yourself, set goals to push yourself farther.
Of course, setting the goal is the easiest thing, but in order to achieve it, the work must be put in.
In Student Council, the goal is to help fellow students throughout the year. The goals are to help maintain the school appearance, raise money for senior scholarships, and to make high school more enjoyable with fundraisers, dances and Field Day.
Our agenda is to meet every goal we set at the beginning of the school year. We decide as a council what is needed to be done. This year, working as a team has made it easier and faster to achieve our goals.
This year, we held two dances and a Beach Cleanup Contest (the junior class was awarded an hour lunch). We plan to have Field Day May 9, Guitar Hero Contest at a date to be announced, and the annual senior awards assembly. We are also looking at making a senior lounge for the future years.
Our sponsor, Leif Johnson, has helped us to consider the goals that we want to achieve. He has made it clear we should be involved in every student's life, making it more memorable. His dedication to the Student Council has made it easier to come together and work as a team. Mr. Johnson also encourages us to get involved in our school. Over the years, the student council has achieved many of its goals, and it has strived to make our school better.
