KPAB schedules free dump day

Get a head start on hurricane season by disposing of junk from yards and garages during the Keep Port Aransas Beautiful (KPAB) free dump day.

The event, a tradition for years, has been set for Saturday, April 12.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., residents may take trash to the city transfer station on Ross Avenue at no cost.

KPAB has partnered with the City of Port Aransas and Allied Waste-BFIto provide the service.

KPAB scheduled the event to participate in the Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) Don't Mess with Texas Trash-Off annual event and as a part of the Keep America Beautiful (KAB) Great American Cleanup (GAC).

The GAC is a program where affiliates from across the country hold cleanup and beautification projects from March to May each year.

During the free dump, no hazardous waste or commercial trash will be accepted. Paint, freon, anti-freeze and other dangerous fluids also are excluded.

"The event provides a chance for residents of Port Aransas to clean up property with no out-of-pocket expense," said KPAB board member Don Anz.

Removing material that could be dangerous in bad weather creates a safer environment for everyone in town, as well as making the city look prettier," Anz said.

KPAB is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, whose mission is to promote public interest to create a cleaner, more beautiful Port Aransas through volunteerism and education.

The organization focuses on litter reduction, beautification and community improvement, to reduce/reuse/ recycle/rebuy and provides environmental education.

KPAB is a KAB and KTB affiliate.
