H.G. Olsen Elementary School kindergarten classes held a mock marriage ceremony for the letters Q and U on Monday, Feb. 25, as part of a lesson on how the letters work together in a word. The blessed event was held under the pavilion on the playground. From left are: parent Lisa Shelton, helping keep the wind from blowing down the decorative arch; Q holder Kylee Barwise; Principal Sylvia Buttler, officiating; U holder Ian Johnson; counselor Jeri Franco, holding the arch; Sailor Arnold, who was a quarter girl, rather than a flower girl, dropping quarters instead of flower petals ahead of the bride and groom; quarter girl Hailey Clark; shusher Brock Craigen; and fellow shusher Phoebe Shelton, daughter of Lisa Shelton. A few dozen children attended the ceremony. Q and U are honeymooning in Quebec.
