Lifeguard class set to begin Monday
      Registration for an American Red Cross lifeguard (ARC) lifeguard class will be accepted up to the night the class begins. Certification in ARC lifeguard instruction, first aid instruction and CPR for the Professional Rescuer will be included in the classes held Monday through Thursday, Feb. 18 to 22.

Deadline set for PAEF grant applications
      Teachers and other employees at Port Aransas schools have until Feb. 29 to apply for the next round of grants from the Port Aransas Education Foundation. The non-profit foundation's mission is to raise money to award grants for programs and items not funded in school budgets.

Port Aransas children win in YMCA leagues
      Two teams of Port Aransas children recently won first places in their divisions in a basketball league run by the YMCA of the Coastal Bend. The Port Aransas Divas, composed of third- and fourth-grade girls, took first place in their division.

      Members of the Port Aransas Divas, a basketball team composed mostly of island third and fourth graders, enjoyed a pizza party recently after winning first place in their division of a league run by the YMCA of the Coastal Bend in Corpus Christi.

      Last May when (Principal Travis) Longanecker announced that we had grant funds to establish a new PC lab upstairs at the high school, it reinvigorated a vision of mine. I wanted to set up a 20-station PC lab where we could specialize as an instructional center for students to learn about the Linux operating system.
