Golf cart bridge construction to get started soon

BY PHIL REYNOLDS SOUTH JETTY REPORTER

By mid-May, a bridge should stretch over State Hwy. 361, allowing golf carts to go from one part of Newport Beach and Golf to the other.

Next week - at latest, the following week - contractors should start staging equipment and material for the bridge, which will connect a practice facility and three holes of the course, on the west side of the highway, with the remaining 15 holes and the clubhouse, on the east side of the road, said Jim Brown, of Newport Beach and Golf.

Brown said two power line drops were needed to start work on the bridge. The first has been finished and the second should take place later this week, he said. Contractors plan a pre-construction meeting tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 8.

The bridge will have a minimum clearance of 21 feet, 5 inches, Brown said, and will be 16 feet wide. The clearance is well above Texas Department of Transportation requirements, he said.

The Arnold Palmer Signature links course may also be ready by mid-May, Brown said; if not then, soon after.
