FISHING REPORT
Even with the cold and wind, catching reports were much better for last week, according to the docks and individual fishermen. Kingfish and trout were the biggest hits.
Dan Hurd of Deep Sea Headquarters, said, this dock has been "killing at kingfish", with big catches coming in off the 8-hour trips, along with dorado and vermilion snapper. The long-range tuna trips reeled in blackfin and yellowfin tuna and dorado.
Dorado, kingfish and shark were caught on the Adventurer out of
Offshore Adventures last week, according to Peggy Sexton. Bay fishermen caught trout and some redfish. Most used baits were mud minnows, mullet and live shrimp.
Anglers on the Island Queen out of Woody's Sports Center are catching black drum and sand trout, reported Sandra Fudge. Black drum are showing up in the Corpus Christi Ship channel. Speckled trout, redfish, black drum and sheepshead are being caught off the jetties. Bay anglers are catching sheepshead, black drum and redfish.
Fisherman's Wharf garnered anglers 120 king mackerel and a few shark, John McNatt said. This trend continued on other trips. A private charter taking a state-water trip returned with a mess of red snapper. Anglers using the Jetty Boat returned with lots of trout, redfish and sheepshead.
Fishing has been "really good" on boats out of Dolphin Dock, when the boats went out, reported Bill Fintel. Lots of big kingfish, shark, dorado, tuna, bonito and snapper have been caught on offshore trips.
