Goathead Tourney ushers in new year
      Tuesday, Jan. 1, dawned chilly and windy. Did that faze the dedicated anglers who fish the Goathead Tournament each year? Well, yes, it did. But they went fishing anyway. The twelfth annual tournament concluded at 1:15 p.m. with Mitchell Collins of Port Aransas taking home the $261 pot. Collins' sheepshead was the only one weighed in.

FISHING REPORT
More fish are biting despite cold, wind
      Even with the cold and wind, catching reports were much better for last week, according to the docks and individual fishermen. Kingfish and trout were the biggest hits. Dan Hurd of Deep Sea Headquarters, said, this dock has been "killing at kingfish", with big catches coming in off the 8-hour trips, along with dorado and vermilion snapper.

Lots of kings
      Capt. Tony Buzzbee of Fisherman's Wharf led these anglers to a catch of 120 king mackerel Saturday, Dec. 29.

Fishing for the holidays
      These anglers went fishing on an 8-hour trip with Capt. Bill Coffield on the Kingfisher out of Deep Sea Headquarters Saturday, Dec. 29. They returned with limits of kingfish and shark.

Morning after
      On the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 26, the Abdo family of San Antonio got late Christmas presents while fishing with guide Gary Cooper out of Woody's Sports Center. They returned with these reds and trout caught on live shrimp in the bay. Also caught was a 50-pound drum. From right are Solomon Abdo, his wife Jeanine and son Solomon Abdo IV.
