"Assignment Outer Space" will be shown in the Port Aransas City Council chambers at 710 W. Ave. A at Cut-off Road. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the film rolls at 6:55 p.m. Admission is free. Popcorn and lemonade, at no cost, will be served by the Port Aransas Parks and Recreation Department, which sponsors the event monthly in the winter. The synopsis of the movie provided by Oldies.com reads, "Astronauts on a secret mission to Mars discover that an unstoppable renegade space station is speeding toward a defenseless Earth on a deadly collision course. The scientists are faced with a horrific choice -- watch helplessly as their planet is destroyed or risk their lives on a million-to-one chance to stop the impact. When every option seems exhausted, a heroic reporter makes a final attempt to save the Earth. Filmed in 1961, 'Assignment: Outer Spaceis a showcase for the groundbreaking special effects work of Caesar Peace and is one in a series of colorful space-adventure films directed by Antonio Magheriti." |
