Community asked to judge lights contest

Decorate, turn on the lights, watch the Lighted Boat Parade and cruise the town to vote for your favorite holiday decorations on Saturday, Dec. 8.

The Port Aransas Garden Club invites the public to judge the Community Christmas Lights Contest and turn in ballots by Monday, Dec. 10.

The evening will start with the Lighted Boat Parade/Carolers Afloat (see story above).

Then voters are invited to drive throughout town where residential and commercial categories can be voted on using ballots available on Page 11A of this edition or at the Family Center IGA courtesy booth. If the address is not visible Saturday night, voters are asked to drive by in daylight to record the address.

Registration is not required to be judged. Contest chairman Ruth Asher said contestants simply need to leave their lights on Saturday night.

Winners will be notified, and should leave their lights on beginning just before dusk on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 14, 15 and 16, so photos of the winners can be taken. Those photos will appear in the Dec. 20 edition of the South Jetty.

The categories are residential (including individual condominium units), recreational vehicle/mobile home, commercial (which includes individual businesses and entrances to condominium complexes) and individual boats.

For more information, call Asher, 749-0826.
