Holiday boat parade is Saturday
All aboard Scat Cat for Christmas caroling

Boaters have until noon Saturday, Dec. 8, to register for the Boat Lighting Contest and Parade to be held that night.

The parade is held in conjunction with Carolers Afloat featuring boatloads of people singing Christmas carols to lead the Boat Parade.

Call (361) 749-5919 or stop by the Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce- Tourist Bureau, 403 W. Cotter, to enter a boat in the contest.

A captain's meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the harbormaster 's office next to the Fred Rhodes Memorial Pavilion at Roberts Point Park.

Anyone who wants to participate by singing Christmas carols aboard the Scat Cat should be at the park by 6 p.m. The boat will leave the dock promptly at 6:30 p.m.

Participants and spectators will be treated to refreshments upon their return to shore where Santa Claus will listen to the children's requests.

Cash prizes of $200 for first place and $100 for second place in each category will be awarded. In addition, a $200 prize for the most originally decorated boat will be awarded by the chamber.

Categories and their sponsors are:

• Non-profit organization, any size vessel, first place prize donated by the South Jetty newspaper, second place donated by Linda and Charlie Zahn.

• Private vessel, 30 feet or less in length, first place donated by Island Dunes, second place donated by Fisherman's Wharf.

• Private vessel, 31 feet or more in length, first place donated by Woody'Sports Center, second place donated by Virginia's on the Bay.

• Commercial vessel, any length, first place donated by Port Aransas Realty, second place donated by the Family Center IGA.

The loan of a boat and captain for non-profit organizations interested in participating is available through the Port Aransas Boatmen Inc.
