Instead of a First Friday Reception in December, the Art Center for the Islands will have a Student Art Show and Awards Reception on Sunday, Dec. 2. It will be from 2 to 4 p.m. at the art center, 323 N. Alister St., and refreshments will be served.

Each year, the December reception features art by middle school and high school students from the Port Aransas, Aransas Pass and Flour Bluff independent school districts. The art will be judged, with winners in Best of Show awarded for first through third place in each grade participating.

Tom McHenry instructs the participating students from Port Aransas; Aransas Pass students are under the instruction of Laurie Garcia; and Lisa Brown, Ron Richardson, Connie Vallie, Valerie Lichtenberger and Charlotte Walker instruct Flour Bluff students.

Judging the art will be Adam Johnson of Port Aransas, Christi Mathews of Aransas Pass and Pam Stanley of Corpus Christi.

"Come enjoy great art and refreshments while supporting the students," said art center director Mary Rose.

The exhibit will remain up through Friday, Dec. 28.

Corporate sponsors for December are the Family Center IGA and Winship Construction.
