Study: Operations needs leadership

      Operations department director Crockett Moreno, a veteran of 32 years with the city, will retire Nov. 30. That announcement, made at the beginning of a workshop on Tuesday, Nov. 13, adds urgency to City Manager Michael Kovacs' efforts to reorganize the department and to find a new director.

Public invited to provide input on 'Island Road' expansion plans
      The Texas Department of Transportation (TxcDOT) will host an open house today, Thursday, Nov. 15, from 2-4:30 p.m. in the city council chamber to hear how Port Aransans feel about a proposal to improve State Hwy. 361 between Avenue G and Beach Access Road 1.

      An earlier deadline has been set for next week's advertising and news for the South Jetty as it will go to press early for Thanksgiving. Noon Monday, Nov. 19, is the deadline for the Nov. 22 edition. Letters to the editor for that edition must be received by 9 a.m.

      It's official now. With the snip of a ribbon stretched across Piper Channel, Jerry Patterson, commissioner of the Texas Land Office, brought to a close a $6.3 million project designed to keep land at the edge of the Port Aransas Nature Preserve from eroding into the Corpus Christi Ship Channel.

      The final performances of "Night Watch" will be presented this weekend at the Port Aransas Community Theatre (PACT), 2327 State Hwy. 361. The two-act suspense play by Lucille Fletcher will run tonight, Thursday, Nov. 15 through Saturday, Nov. 17, with a matinee at 2:30 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 18.
