Monster Mash to be big bash this Saturday The Monster Mash, that was a graveyard smash in the late 1970s, is coming back - sort of. The Port Aransas Parent-Teacher Organization is trying something new this year for Halloween. The Monster Mash Ball will combine the usual carnival with a dance party with "Witchy limbo", games and a costume contest. The event will be held Saturday, Oct. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the H.G. Olsen Elementary School cafeteria and gym. Admission is free for elementary school students. A "very cool blow-up spooky mansion as well as games and lots of surprises" are in store for the kids, according to Laurie Hanmore who is chairing the event. One thing that will remain is the cakewalk that will cost $1 per turn. Donations of baked goods for the cakewalk may be taken to the cafeteria after 2 p.m. Saturday. Among the games will be pumpkin bowling, pin the face on the skeleton, fishing, bean bag toss, face painting and a haunted castle. Hanmore also said the event will feature "a celebrity fortune teller, a costume contest and prizes galore". Volunteeers are needed, and may call Hanmore at (361) 232-1186 to sign up to help. "We promise to make it a truly special night for the children of Port Aransas," Hanmore said. |
