Contest winners are announced; money raised will benefit school
BY DAN PARKER SOUTH JETTY REPORTER

HAILEY CLARK
The Port Aransas PTO has announced winners of a student fundraising competition.

Students throughout H.G. Olsen Elementary School sold a variety of catalogue items including wrapping paper and gift items like picture frames and candles. Cookie dough and chocolates also could be ordered from the catalogues.

First place in the competition went to kindergartener Hailey Clark, who sold $738 worth of merchandise. She won a $30 Port A Surf Shop gift certificate.

Second place went to Anne Marie Appling, a second grader who sold merchandise worth $642. She won a $20 Penny Pinchers gift certificate.

Second grader Dylan Denton got third place, selling $538 in merchandise. Dylan won a $20 gift certificate from Fire It Ceramics.

In September, students sold items from a North Carolinabased business called Innisbrook Wraps and Premium Products. The PTO reached its goal of grossing $14,000. Half of that went to Innisbrook, and the other half went to the PTO.

"The Olsen Elementary PTO and staff appreciates the community support we received in this fundraiser," said Anne Denton, chair of the fundraising program. "We could not have reached our goal without such strong support."

The PTO will use money from the fundraiser to pay for the Halloween Carnival (now called the Monster Mash Bash), teacher lunches, ice cream socials, field day, a sock hop for elementary school students and other activities.

Delivery of the purchased items is scheduled to take place during the week of Nov. 12. Many of the items will be delivered to the school, and children then will handdeliver that merchandise to buyers. Buyers who purchased online will receive the merchandise in the mail.

To celebrate reaching its goal, the PTO will treat all of Olsen's students to rootbeer floats at school during the week of Nov. 5.
