Old Town Festival set for Nov. 24 Celebrate the history of Port Aransas at the second annual Old Town Festival set for Saturday, Nov. 24. The Port Aransas Preservation and Historical Association (PAPHA) is sponsoring the event to bring awareness to the Port Aransas of old, and to have a fun, family festival for residents and visitors, said John Fucik, PAPHA president. The event will begin with storytelling by old-timers and long-time islanders at various old establishments. It will progress with a parade of bagpipers leading a myriad of travelers through old town ending up at the Tarpon Inn. At the Inn, a wine and cheese gettogether will include music. Information about PAPHA will be available and merchandise will be for sale with proceeds going to the fund drive for the museum. "We want everyone who is in town or can come to town to join us in celebrating our heritage," said parade chairman Rick Pratt. "Think of the old Rusty Bucket Parade from Port A Days…remember how much fun that was?" Pratt asked. "Get whatever vehicle, bike, car, boat, horse, motorcycle or just your feet. Then decorate as creatively as possible and come join us. Outrageous works," he said. Register for the parade with Pratt by e-mail at camric@the-i.net or by phone at 749-3193. Everyone is welcome. Volunteers are needed to help with the event and can contact festival chairman Pam Greene to offer assistance by e-mail at rattraxx@centurytel.net or by cell phone at (361) 443-4683. |
