Chapman

HOYT CHAPMAN
Hoyt Lee Chapman of Corpus Christi died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007. He was 68 and a former principal at Port Aransas High School.

Chapman died at home with his wife, Mary Jimenez Chapman by his side, after a long battle with cancer.

He was an only child born to the late Rasor Lee and Trixie Goodwin Chapman in Hebbronville, on March 13, 1939. Chapman was raised in Alice, where he graduated from Alice High School in 1957 and graduated from Texas A&I University with a Master of Science degree in Education in 1966.

He taught biology for Harlingen ISD before becoming a high school principal for Harlingen ISD, Robstown ISD, Edna ISD and Hitchcock ISD.

Chapman started Profit High School, an "at risk school" for kids who wanted a second chance, in the fall of 1989 for the Victoria ISD. He retired in 1998.

In 1999, Chapman and his wife moved to Corpus Christi, where he worked with Elite General Contractors as a project supervisor until the onset of his disease.

He was a member of Christ the King Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and served as President of the Third Order of the Most Holy Trinity (Trinitarian).

Chapman was preceded in death by his parents, and maternal and paternal grandparents.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Lee Ann Chapman of Houston and Lori (Tim) Cochran of Scottsboro, Ala; four sons, Robert (Carlene) Chapman of College Station, Kenneth Chapman (Amie Savell) of Corpus Christi, Richard (Kimberly) Chapman of Houston and James Ruiz of Dallas; 11 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, Breanna Leigh Banda.

A Memorial Rosary and Mass was held at Christ the King Catholic Church in Corpus Christi, Saturday, Oct. 20. Interment was private.
