Photo slated Monday for breast cancer awareness

The third annual Think Pink Day will be Monday, Oct. 22.

The event is held to bring the community together to focus on Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Everyone in the community is encouraged to wear pink all day, then meet at Roberts Point Park at 5:30 p.m. for a "Think Pink" picture".

(In the event of inclement weather, the event will be canceled and rescheduled to the fourth Monday of October 2008. Call 749-5131 to confirm.)

Organizers of Relay for Life will be on hand to sign up teams for that event, scheduled for April 25, 2008.

Breast cancer survivors, anyone battling the disease or any form of cancer, and anyone who has been touched by cancer are urged to gather at the park on Oct. 22.

Sally Marco will again bring her pink car that will be the centerpiece of the "Think Pink" picture.

A representative of Christus Spohn's Breast Center has been invited to Think Pink Day and provide brochures on the program's services that include free mammograms for women who qualify.

Think Pink participants will be treated to cookies and bottled water after the photo is taken.

Think Pink Day is sponsored by the South Jetty newspaper.

"If there is anything other than medical advances that make a difference to those who suffer or who have suffered cancer, it is the support of family and friends. Think Pink Day is a way to show you care and, therefore, make a meaningful difference to cancer patients - past, present and future," said South Jetty editor and co-publisher, Mary Judson who also is a breast cancer survivor.
