Help needed
Mercer house work day is Saturday

Manpower and womanpower along with power tools and transport vehicles are needed for the workday scheduled by the Port Aransas Preservation and Historical Association (PAPHA).

Volunteers led by Tom Dasch and Bruce Elliot will tackle two projects on the Mercer house Saturday, Oct. 20.

All the bushes, trees and other foliage around the house on Oleander Street will be removed to make it easier for the house to be moved to its new home next to the Community Center where it will begin its new life as an historical museum.

Help from people with chainsaws, a trailer or just muscles is needed for this part. Work gloves, pruning shears and water to keep hydrated need to be brought as well.

Renovation on the open kitchen wall to create an ADA compliant entrance, frame a door, install two windows, studding and sheathing and siding also will be done. Power saws, hammers and measuring tapes are needed for this part.

Hot dogs and drinks will be provided courtesy of the Family Center IGA.

"We have a trailer, but another one would be helpful to make the time spent hauling the brush away faster," said PAPHA board member Betty Bundy. "We still need tools and labor," she said.

Contact Bundy at 749-3406 or by e-mail at ggbun7@centurytel.net, if able to assist. Leave a message if no answer on the phone.
