Water district announces a 'changing of the guard'

STAFF PHOTO BY PHIL REYNOLDS Looking ahead Mark Young, left, will assume manager ment of Nueces County Water Control and Improvement District 4 upon the retirement of manager Mary Moss who this week announced her retirement after 10 years as district manager and 26 years with the district. Young has 25 years with WCID 4.
Mary Moss, who has managed the Nueces County Water Control and Improvement District 4 (WCID 4) in Port Aransas for a decade, will step down next year.

Moss announced her retirement to the district board earlier this week.

Board president Russ Miget said the board has asked water district Superintendent Mark Young to become the district's manager when Moss retires.

Moss said she intended to give the board ample notice of her retirement. She said she would stay on the job "until February or March - there's been no definite date set."

Moss has been with the district a total of 26 years, the last 12 as manager, Miget said. He said the board had "high praise" for her work as manager.

Young will complete 25 years' service with the water district next month, he said. He said it's "far too early" to contemplate plans for assuming the position of manager.
