GED, ESL class resumes

Classes resume Wednesday, Sept. 19, for general educational development (GED) preparation, basic literacy reading for the adult non-reader and English as a second language (ESL).

The classes will be held in the library of the JELM building at Community Presbyterian Church, 113 S. Alister St. Scheduled classes will be from 9 a.m. to noon, but additional hours are available by appointment.

All instruction is free, and materials, as well as classroom access to computer study sites online, are provided.

Students must be 18 years old to study for the GED, however younger ESL students may be admitted by special permission.

The program, operated by volunteer teachers, has been available for two years and has seen three students receive GED certificates.

Instructors are Alice Marks, Linda Trepanier and Toni Somers. For more information or to enroll, call Somers at 749-3386.
