New video: Labor Day holiday draws crowds - click here to watch Share ideas for city's 67 acres Most Port Aransans will remember a couple of years ago, when a proposal to develop 67 acres of city-owned land near the end of Port Street on the Corpus Christi Ship Channel had many residents up in arms. That proposal died, but at least some city council members believe the property is too valuable to let it lie fallow; and besides, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers permit to allow a marina to be put there will expire in a few years. Action of some kind is needed fairly soon. Recognizing this, the city council has scheduled a workshop to discuss potential uses for the site for Thursday, Sept. 20, at 4 p.m. in the council chamber, 410 W. Avenue A. The South Jetty wants to know what you think should happen to the property. Please limit your ideas to 300 words or less, and confine the subject to possible uses of the site. Send responses to Phil Reynolds at phil@portasouthjetty.com. The South Jetty reserves the right to edit any responses that may be used in the paper. |
