Runners become bakers for cross-country fundraiser

Port Aransas High School's cross country team members will display their culinary talents when they hold bake sales for the next three Sundays.

The team of 13 long-distance runners is trying to raise money to pay for an extra meet that will require an overnight stay on Oct. 6 in Round Rock, site of the state cross country meet.

The trio of bake sales begins Sunday, Sept. 2. All three sales will be held at the Family Center IGA, 416 N. Alister St., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Coach Steve Reaves said, "We do not need any baked goods donated. The kids are responsible for that. Since this is an extra trip this year, I want them to do the work to raise the money."

Reaves said the opportunity to compete on the same course as the state meet provides a little motivation to raise the money to make the trip.
