Docks report trout, redfish, tuna biting

Fishing continues to be abundant all over the Coastal Bend. Fishermen are catching the usual species in good numbers.

Fishing has been great for anglers out of Deep Sea Headquarters, said Greg Brown. Reservations have been steady for the holiday weekend trips. The Pelican brought in a big catch of blackfin tuna, he said. Long trips had fishermen bringing in red snapper. Kingfish, ling and dorado have been caught.

A 6-foot blacktip shark was the big catch off the pier, reported Luci Krause of the Pier House on Horace Caldwell Pier. Speckled trout, pompano, sheepshead, shark, Spanish mackerel and little reds were reeled in this week. Anglers used mostly shrimp and shad and a little mullet for bait.

Offshore Adventures, Beverly Stapleton said. Atlantic sharpnose and other shark, kingfish, triggerfish and rock hind also are being caught. Speckled trout and redfish are being caught using live shrimp, croaker and piggy perch.

The redfish run has begun, according to Gwen Montgomery of

Woody's Sports Center. Guides led customers to redfish in the bays and surf. Also in the surf, trout were caught. Island Queen fishermen brought in trout, shark and redfish. Offshore, wahoo, dorado, ling, red snapper and kingfish were caught.

Boats out of Fisherman's Wharf caught lots of dorado, said John McNatt. Dog, lane, red and vermilion snapper were caught. Kingfish catches slowed some, and small grouper were caught. Speck limits and a few redfish were caught by anglers who used the Jetty Boat to go to the north jetty.

Sandy Martin of Dolphin Dock reported catches of blackfin tuna, snapper, dorado, ling, barracuda, shark, pompano and kingfish. Bay anglers brought in small shark, whiting and gafftop.
