Training for substitutes set by school

Training for those wanting to substitute teach in the Port Aransas Independent School District (PAISD) will be held Monday, Aug. 27.

The training will be conducted at PAISD administration building, 100 Station St., from 9 to 11 a.m.

Training will cover such topics as the substitute teacher's role in curriculum, classroom management, communications and a state-mandated section on sexual harassment.

Special programs coordinator Gayla Wiggins will conduct the training.

Anyone wishing to substitute teach in the Port Aransas schools must complete the training before being assigned. However, if the substitute teacher attended the training session last year, it is not necessary to retake it.

PAISD substitute teachers are paid on a per day basis. The rate of pay is based on the level of education the substitute teacher has attained.

For further information, call Karen Pantel at 749-1217.
