Today last chance to register kids for Latchkey program

Today, Thursday, Aug. 16, is the day to sign up children for the 2007- 08 after-school Latchkey program.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., at the City of Port Aransas Parks and Recreation Department office, 739 W. Ave. A.

The program, supervised by parks and recreation, has limited space, so register early, said parks and recreation department assistant director Rachael King.

Parents or guardians must pay the first month's fees in order for the registration to be complete. The fee this month will include four days in August and all of September.

Fees per month are $62.50 for the first child in a family, $37.50 for a second child and $25 for each additional child.

The Latchkey program is offered every school day from 3:15 to 5:47 p.m.

Children from 5 to 12-years-old, or in the fifth grade, whichever comes first, are eligible for the program.
