Kids' surf lessons remain a 'go,' but benefit cookout is canceled

The Port Aransas Surf Club has canceled a benefit beach cookout the club was planning, but a function providing free children's surf lessons, scheduled for the same date and location, remains on tap.

Morgan Faulkner - a Port Aransan with more than 20 state surfing titles - will lead a group of adult surf instructors giving free surf lessons to Port Aransas children from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, on the north side of Horace Caldwell Pier.

The surf lessons are for Port Aransas children 5 years and older who can swim. To register, children must bring copies of their report cards from Port Aransas schools from 2006-07 as proof of residency. Registration is between noon and 12:30 p.m. Children must be accompanied by parents.
