Drawing and painting classes, jewelry, pottery workshops set

Cultivate your creative side and hone skills by taking classes and workshops at the Art Center for the Islands. Weekly classes include drawing and painting; workshops scheduled are for jewelry making and pottery. All are held at the art center, 323 N. Alister St.

Classes are ongoing and supply lists are available at the center's front desk.

Students attending workshops need to pre-register and pre-pay half to be enrolled.

On Tuesdays, a drop in and draw class is led by Pat Dittberner from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The cost is $15 for non-members and $13.50 for members. Learn to draw or improve skills.

On Thursdays, Donna Garven teaches a soft pastels class from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost is $15 for non-members and $13.50 for members. Bring a set of soft pastels; the paper is available from the instructor.

The beginner/intermediate watercolor class taught by Kay Barnebey will resume on Fridays starting Sept. 7. The classes are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $25 for one class or $80 for four.

Sue McClurg will hold a jewelry workshop Monday, Aug. 27, with attendees making a beaded wide cuff bracelet. The time will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost is $15 for instruction and $5 for supplies. Pre-payment of half is required by Monday, Aug. 20.

Bill Hildebrand will hold an eightweek dingbat pottery workshop beginning Monday, Sept. 10. Instruction on hand-built and on-the-wheel pottery will be from 6 to 9 p.m. The cost is $300 for non-members and $270 for members. Reserve a space by signing up and pre-paying half as soon as possible.
