The Bible tells me so

Mary Judson (Spinoff, Aug. 2) makes a simple statement that can truly help all of mankind.

This simple statement comes directly from the Bible, Matthew (7:12): "Do to others whatever you would have them do to you."

If we could repeat these words daily when trouble, frustration and temptation arise, how much better could we be personally?

Cell phone nuts

(South Jetty editor) Mary Judson hit the nail square on the head this time, and good job (In rep: Spinoff, Aug. 2).

Re: Cell phone nuts. Have you ever been behind someone who is gabbing on the phone and the cashier is waiting for them to pay and everyone behind them is just waiting? Also the lazy bums who park in the red-zoned fire lanes as they cannot bear to walk 20 feet to the door of the store. Keep at 'em!

Priorities confused

I cannot for the life of me understand what the town leaders are thinking: Let's spend money we don't have to redo Roberts Point Park and the harbor. For the most part, it is very functional. I do acknowledge there are some problems, but most are minor.

Anyone who drives the streets of this town knows what kind of condition they are in! There is no excuse having to dodge potholes and suffer damage to your car just to get across town. Has anyone noticed that the county quit using that nasty and dangerous excuse for a restroom on the beach( no steps, no hand rails -- enter at your own risk).

If the city wants to spend that kind of tax money, why not put in a lane at the ferry landing for the people of this town? That would be much more useful than most of the proposed "improvements" to the harbor and Roberts Point.

We can throw away $80,000 because the mayor didn't like the city manager, or spend $90,000 to repair a pool that was just a few years old. But fix our roads, put safe and sanitary restrooms on the beach or a ferry lane for the people of this town! Well, I think you get where I'm going with this.

It's time for a change in priorities in this town, ones that will help everyone not just a few!
