Kids fish for bikes in Hope Devlin tourney
Kids will have a chance to win when they enter the Captain Hope Devlin Kids Fishing Tournament on Aug. 10 and 11.

Registration is Friday, Aug. 10, and fishing and awards will be Saturday, Aug. 11. Cost is $15 in advance or $20 on tournament day, and includes a t-shirt and a food ticket.

Proceeds from the tournament sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Port Aransas will go to provide scholarships for Port Aransas High School graduates.

Registration will be held Aug. 10 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Fred Rhodes Memorial Pavilion at Roberts Point Park. Fishing will be from sunrise Aug. 11, with weigh in deadline at 12:30 p.m. at the pavilion.

Hotdog meals will be served to anglers from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the pavilion. The meals are paid for through registration fees. Adults may purchase hotdog meals for $5.

Awards will be presented at the pavilion at 1:30 p.m. First place winners in each age group will win a bicycle, and awards will be given for participation. Awards will be presented in three age categories for the largest fish by weight. Age categories are 0-5 years, 6 to 10 years, and 11 to 16 years.

"There are no rules, and those are the rules," a spokesman for the Kiwanis Club said. However, all contestants must comply with state fishing regulations.

The tournament memorializes the late Hope Devlin who was active in starting the Kiwanis Club here and who loved to fish.
