Anglers enjoy fishing in steamy, dry weather
With much less rain this week, anglers have been fishing and catching like crazy, reported dock employees.
Despite the on and off rain, a 63- pound and 57-pound blacktip shark, a 43-pound ling and a 16-pound bonnethead headlined at Offshore Adventures this week. Limits of red snapper, vermilion snapper, kingfish, Atlantic sharpnose shark, mahi-mahi, jack crevalle and the 57-pound blacktip were caught aboard the Adventurer on the 12-hour trips. On the 8-hour trips, limits of red snapper, vermillion snapper, gray snapper, rock hind, kingfish, Atlantic sharpnose shark, several ling up to 43-pounds, jack crevalle and the 63-pound blacktip. In the bays, fishermen were bringing in some nice trout, redfish and mangrove snapper using live shrimp, piggy perch and croaker, said Beverly Stapleton.
Trout, redfish and shark are being caught in the surf, said Sandra Fudge of Woody's Sports Center. Bay guides are leading fishermen to redfish, black drum and speckled trout. Anglers on the Island Queen are catching shark, sand trout, whiting and redfish. Offshore, kingfish, red snapper, wahoo, dolphin, and ling are being caught offshore.

Fisherman's Wharf caught lots of dorado, lots of wahoo and lots of kingfish, John Mc- Natt reported. A private trip pulled in 30 blackfin tuna on one trip. Anglers taking the Jetty Boat to the north jetty were catching lots of speckled trout and redfish.
Big kingfish and big amberjack are being caught on boats out of Dolphin Dock, said Ernest Scott. Kingfish, vermilion and red snapper, Atlantic sharpnose shark, grouper, mahi-mahi, ling and lots of small shark are being caught.
King mackerel, ling, blackfin tuna, lots of dolphin and big blacktip sharks were caught this week, reported Greg Brown of Deep Sea Headquarters. Snapper continued to be caught on the longer trips.
Little blacktip sharks, black drum up to 36-inches, croaker and whiting were caught off the pier, Luci Krause of the Pier House on Horace Caldwell Pier, said. Speckled trout are hitting hooks more at night, she said. Baits were mullet, live shrimp and squid.
