Williams

ROGER WILLIAMS
Roger Williams, 66, died July 25, 2007, in Nacogdoches. He had a second home in Port Aransas.

Born Jan. 24, 1941, in Navasota, he was the son of the late T.C. and Opal Williams.

Williams graduated from George Washington High School in Fairfax, Va., where he received 14 varsity letters in sports. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English and history from Texas A&M University.

Williams was a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam war, where he received two Purple Hearts. He and his wife own and operate Express Personnel in Lufkin and Nacogdoches. Williams loved the beach in Port Aransas and was an avid fisherman on his boat, Taryn It Up. He also loved music, theatre and football.

Williams is survived by his wife of 22 years, Rhonda Williams of Nacogdoches; two sons, Ian Hunter Williams of Kyle and Robert Austin Williams of Nacogdoches; a sister, Cissie Williams of Austin and Port Aransas; two grandsons, Cole and Cooper Williams of Kyle; sister-in-law and brother-inlaw, Patti Plymate-McEnnis and Tom McEnnis of Georgetown; three nieces, Amanda, Lee and Bonnie; and one nephew, Travis.

A remembrance barbecue luncheon was held in Nacogdoches on Sunday, July 29. The family will travel to Washington, DC, where Williams will have a ceremony and marker at Arlington National Cemetery. A short service to scatter the ashes will be held for friends Sunday, Aug. 5. Those wishing to go should meet at the Salty Dog at 12:30 p.m. A memorial lunch will be held at the Salty Dog at 3 p.m. after the ashes are scattered.

Memorials may be made to the Animal Rehabilitation Keep in Williams ' name at University of Texas at Austin Marine Science Institute, 750 Channelview Dr., Port Aransas, TX 78373. Condolences are welcome at his home, 2212 Briargrove, Dr., Nacogdoches, TX 75965.
