PACT to host TAMU symphony Saturday

Musicians from the Texas A&M University-Kingsville Symphony Orchestra will serenade an audience in Port Aransas Saturday, June 23.

The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Port Aransas Community Theatre (PACT), 2327 State Hwy. 361.

The tickets may be purchased Thursday through Saturday, June 21- 23, or by calling 749-6036. The time to buy the $10 tickets at the theater are today and tomorrow from noon to 5 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p. m., or at the door 30 minutes prior to curtain time.

The horn ensemble under the direction of Dr. Jennifer Ratchford Sholtis will begin with selections from "West Side Story" and will include a slide show of pictures from the 1961 Oscar winning film. Some traditional Mexican folk music, including Jalisco, will be performed in the part of the program titled Latin Fiesta. All arrangements are by Sholtis.

The ensemble's most recent accomplishment is an invitation to perform at the International Horn Symposium in LaChaux de Fonds, Switzerland in July. Besides performing for an international audience, the students will attend concerts and a clinic given by internationally recognized horn professionals. As part if the trip, the group will travel through southern Germany performing three concerts en route.

The PACT performance is a fundraiser to help defray the expenses of making the performance in Switzerland.
