PowderPuff: Women get their hooks into fishing
A total of 45 amateur teams and 18 pro-am teams competed this year. The overall winner was a team made up of Robin Duxstad, Leslie Reagan and Jo Krueger, all of Port Aransas. Their guide was Frankie Duxstad of Port Aransas. Anglers put together their heaviest three species for a stringer to be considered for the tourney's overall winner. Duxstad, Reagan and Krueger submitted a 2.71-pound speckled trout, a 7.59-pound redfish and an 8.48-pound black drum for a total of 18.78 pounds. Other winners are below. Amateur division Speckled trout: Denise Walgren, Connie Muse and Sheri Singletary, all of Aransas Pass, and Julie Coulter of Ingleside; 5.67 pounds. Redfish: Cherly Franger of La Coste and Lisa Schnieder of San Antonio; 7.09 pounds.
Black drum: Donna and Clancey Pearson, both of San Antonio, and Cindy Craven of Helotes; 6.27 pounds. Hard head: Darla Metcalf of Leander and Deborah Vogel and Nancy Taylor, both of Austin; 2.73 pounds. Spot pot (most spots on a red- fish): Kathy Ely of San Antonio and Jessica Ely of Frisco; Six spots. Pro-am division Speckled trout: Becky Corder of Port Aransas, Lerissa Rowe of Pensacola, Fla., and Kathy Carroll of Weaverville, N.C.; 5.25 pounds. Guide: Larry Kelley. Redfish: Jennifer Squier of Port Aransas and Lynn Abney and Darlene Rhodes of Corpus Christi; 8.41 pounds. Guide: Steve Reupke.
