Bujan urges citizens to join tax appraisal protest

City Councilman Charles Bujan is asking for help in the city's protest of tax appraisal hikes.

Bujan sent a series of e-mails on Monday, noting that the action of the city council in meeting with the appraisal district board won't be enough by itself to affect appraisal values.

"I believe our City Council made it quite clear that we are serious about doing everything possible to stop the yearly increase of property appraisals and taxes," Bujan wrote in the e-mail.

"Nevertheless, our (PA City Council) actions alone will not get the relief we need. The people of Port Aransas must now rise up in protest. Those citizens who feel their property taxes are too high must file written protests with the Appraisal District NOW, not later."

Bujan said the Port Aransas city staff will help residents file protests.

To get city staff assistance in filing an appraisal protest, call the city at 749-4111 or visit city hall at 710 W. Avenue A.

City offices are open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., except for an hour from noon-1 p.m. for lunch.
